Our Vision of Tutoring...

CAS Tutoring Services provides streamlined tutoring options designed to enhance student learning. As always, if students need additional help with courses, they are encouraged to seek it immediately by visiting our office or attending one of the drop-in tutoring sessions in Mullen Library.

Tutoring is completely confidential but we recommend that students contact their professor or instructor before beginning the tutoring process. After all, CUA professors and instructors are experts in their fields, and who better to help you address your questions? More importantly, professors and instructors are always happy to hear that their students are actively trying to achieve success in their classes, and seeking extra help often reflects positively on the student.

So, what kind of tutoring is for you?

Individual Tutoring: This service provides One-on-One tutoring for students who need individualize attention. Students may self-refer or be referred by an instructor. Tutoring is available at a very low cost: $55 per course for a full semester, and $35 per course for requests submitted after the University midterm date. While tutoring is not free, the cost is extremely low compared to private tutoring services. Tutoring fees are charged to the student's account.

To request a tutor, come fill out a Tutor Request Form at the Welcome Desk, Second Floor Mullen Library, or you may begin the process on the Nest**.

If we do not have an available tutor, we will begin recruiting immediately. This process may take several weeks.

Math Center: All Math content tutoring takes place through the Math Center. Math Center tutoring is FREE and you do not need to fill out a request for a Math tutor. Just check-in at the Welcome Desk on the second floor of Mullen Library.

Subject LabsFREE tutoring sessions are available to you on a weekly basis. Our highly-trained tutors will work with you throughout the semester to answer your questions, work though the challenging parts of your course materials, and get you on the path to success. Subject Labs are available in select course areas (see schedule here). So, drop in and ask the tutor a question, stay for just a few minutes or stay as long as you like... it's all up to you!

*** Note: Tutoring Services are only available for students attending The Catholic University of America.

Information for Faculty and Staff:

If you are a faculty or staff member and you would like to refer a student for tutoring, you may begin the referral process via the Nest**. (Students will still need to fill out a Tutor Request Form at the Welcome Desk, Second Floor Mullen Library, or submit their own request on the Nest.)

Have a student in your class who would make an excellent tutor? Recommend them via the Nest**.

Questions? Email Dr. Vanessa Corcoran (, Assistant Director for Tutoring Services. Please make sure to include 1) Student's name, 2) course information, 3) any other relevant contextual information.
